Last Stop Before Convention

On the last stop before the AANR 75th Anniversary Convention at DeAnza Springs Resort, the Ilsley trophy will make an appearance at Glen Eden Sun Club in Corona, California, August 3-6. Glen Eden is the host of the 2006 AANR West Convention. A founding priority Of Glen Eden in 1963 was to provide naturists with a safe, secure place to enjoy a nudist getaway. The club is known for its large pool area that often features poolside music and a variety of sports courts. Visitors are invited for rest and relaxation or nonstop activities.

The Ilsley is a traveling trophy commissioned to commemorate AANR's 75th Anniversary as the credible voice of reason for nude recreation in North America. Ilsley is traveling to nearly 40 AANR clubs and resorts across the U.S. and Canada. Throughout his tour, special themed events and celebrations are planned at host clubs along the way.

The award is named for the late Rev. Ilsley Boone, the founder and first Executive Director of AANR's predecessor, the American Sunbathing Association. Boone is perhaps best remembered as the flamboyant clergyman who served as plaintiff in the 1958 case of Sunshine Book Co. v. Summerfield. That case went all the way to the United States Supreme Court and established, once and for all, First Amendment protection for nudist publications.

On the Road to AANR's 75th Anniversary Convention

Ilsley ends his tour next week, August 6-13, 2006, at the AANR 75th Anniversary Convention at Deanza Springs Resort in Jacumba, California. Click here  for a complete schedule of convention activities.

Officials Criminalize Streaking

Streaking has been a tradition at the Teton County Fair in Wyoming. Most years, between one and 10 streakers run through the fairgrounds during the Demolition Derby. This year officials are cracking down and taking an even harder stance than last year when a streaker was Tasered, reports the Jackson Hole Wyoming News. Posters hanging in the fair office building say that displays of nudity will result in misdemeanor child endangerment charges, which carry a penalty of up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine. Teton County Attorney Steve Welchman is quoted as saying that in addition to child endangerment, he "hopes there would be other tricks in that bag that I could reach in and grab as well, but I am not inclined to broadcast to everyone in advance."

Currently, statutes prohibit streaking only when there is an element of sexual gratification involved. The child endangerment law prohibits someone from committing an "indecent or obscene act in the presence of a child." Read more at Streaking Crackdown.

Online Nude Travel Searches Up

Is summertime staple--the bikini--on its way out? China Daily reports that Yahoo! Search has seen a 700% rise in requests for information on nudist beaches and holidays over the past five years. Online searches for naturist holidays have risen more than ten-fold. Searches for nudist beaches are four times more popular than five years ago. Similar searches for naturist hotels, nudist camps, and naturist clubs have also increased. Last year, USA Today reported similar findings--nude vacations and nude travel have grown into a $400 million industry.

The China Daily suggests that the bikini, which shocked the public when it first appeared, might be giving way to a new trend-the "re-emergence of nudism" for those who increasingly prefer that all-over tan. Read more at Nude Travel Searches.
