Art Teacher Suspended A Texas schoolteacher remains suspended with pay after claiming she was reprimanded due to a parent complaint that their child saw a nude sculpture on a trip to a Dallas museum, CBS News reports. Sydney McGee, a veteran art teacher, taught elementary school in the Dallas suburb of Frisco. Eighty-nine students from her fifth-grade classes toured the Dallas Museum of Art, where McGee concedes the tour likely included nudes. "It's not a place of pornography, it's art," McGee is quoted as saying. McGee has taught for 28 years and attended Oxford University during her graduate studies. McGee's troubles started after the principal of Fisher Elementary told her a parent had complained about their child viewing nude art. Her dismissal stirred outrage and renewed discussion of Texas conservatism. As pressure mounted, school officials are now claiming that her dismissal has to do with other things such as not updating lesson plans and wearing flip-flops to work. The Frisco school board voted to keep McGee on suspension until the end of the school year and recommended that her contract not be renewed. Read more at Suspension.

More than 1,000 people signed petitions to keep the library open and divert funds to other library expenses. On the spur of the moment, the Friends of Kingsteignton Library decided to bare all in a poster to garner support. Campaigner Mike Walters said, "We bared our souls to the public, saying that the library really has got to stay." More than just a library, the Friends feel the library is the center of the village where residents can use the computers and get information. It is also close to a school which uses it.
