This week in history, Dr. Ilsley Boone, then the executive secretary of the International Nudist Conference, spoke in New York City, stating "Nudism should begin at home." Speaking out against New York's anti-nudism laws on August 30, 1935, Ilsley "Uncle Danny" Boone, credited with being the founder of nudism, preached for tolerance.

Jack Nicholson's Nudist Past

One of the film industry's most beloved and respected actors once enjoyed the nudist lifestyle so much he even did interviews in the buff, reports entertainment website Zee News Limited. A new biography reveals that Oscar-winner Jack Nicholson was "once so committed to nudity that he refused to wear clothes even while entertaining guests."

The book, Five Easy Decades, reveals that Nicholson even gave interviews in the nude while promoting his 1971 film "Drive."

Nicholson has been nominated for an Academy Award 12 times during his distinguished career and has won three. He has also won seven Golden Globe Awards and received the prestigious Kennedy Center Honor in 2001. Read more . . .

Nudity Catching On in Japan

Japan has never been known for its strong nudist movement, but things are beginning to change, particularly among the 20-40-year-old age group, reports the Mainichi Daily News. Many newcomers to nudism in Japan find going au naturel a respite from the business attire they are forced to wear during the workweek.

"Getting nude is like taking off our suits of armor," says a 29-year-old woman interviewed for the article. Others practice nudism partly for its health benefits. A Japanese singer who was interviewed said he even "stopped catching colds" after continuously exposing his skin to the fresh air. Read more . . .

Telecommuters Enjoy Working Naked

Styledash, an online Weblog that tracks styles and trends, reports that the latest trend in telecommuting is working in the nude. One in eight men and one in 14 women responded to a poll saying they prefer to work in the buff.

The article states that one clothing-optional resort that was interviewed stated that a whopping 80% of their clientele are not on vacation, but working. Read more . . .
