Arts Council Removes Nudes

Three art works that feature nudes were pulled from an art exhibit celebrating passion at a government building in Ventura, California. The pieces, one featuring a sculpture of a woman's buttocks titled "Luscious" carved out of Italian marble and a tile mosaic showing a Roman nymph's breasts titled "Ambrosia," were deemed too racy for a government building.

The Ventura County Arts Council rejected one painting that showed a nude woman and a clothed man before the exhibit even began in early February. The nonprofit group reserved judgment on the other pieces of nude art in the building where citizens pay their taxes, record deeds and apply for marriage licenses. According to the Arts Council, a number of complaints came in just hours after the exhibit opened and the art was removed within days. Still remaining is a blurred black-and-white photo of a nude woman and anoher photograph of a woman who is partially clothed. UK Model Trains Nude for Charity Race

A UK model attended a training session naked for the Cancer Research UK Race for Life. Nell McAndrew ran through Regent's Park covered in body paint to raise awareness for the women-only charity fundraiser. McAndrew was joined by other women who have a personal connection with cancer who also shed their clothes for the session.

McAndrew has been a supporter of the event for many years. Her father was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and is now in remission. McAndrew told reporters that "Cancer Research UK's Race for Life 2008 is for everybody, because it's not about how fit you are, it's about taking part and raising money to beat cancer." The event is expected to have 750,000 participants at its 260 events held across the UK between May and July. Read more . . .

Virtual Tour Showcases Nude Fountain

A digital tour of Seattle/Tacoma on the popular website About.com features a page devoted to the Olympic Sculpture Park and the "Father and Son" sculpture of a nude father and his son. The fountain was commissioned by the Seattle Art Musuem for the Olympic Sculpture Park.

The estate of Safeco Executive Stu Smailes left the city $1 million to build a fountain featuring one or more realistic nude male figures. The water of the fountain goes through different stages, taking awhile to move from stage to stage, beginning with both father and son visible, then the water rises and the father disappears, leaving only the son in view, then reverses with the son disappearing and the father in full view. Streaker Fined After On-Field Assault

An Australian rugby player will face no charges after he rammed a streaker with his shoulder during an international game against India. Robert Ogilvie, a 26-year-old fan, was dared by his friends to run the field naked. Replays of the rugby-style shoulder charge by Andrew Symonds were shown on Australian TV, YouTube and on other various media outlets.

Not only was Ogilvie pummeled by the rugby star, he was also fined the equivalent of $1,390 US dollars after a court found him guilty of willful exposure and interfering with a sports event. Symonds faced a ban if found guilty of violating the players' code of conduct but was found innocent. Ogilvie said despite the fine, it felt "great." Read more . . .
