Date & Time, September 3, 2025, 9:00 AM
Description:
We had an unforgettable time on Wandering Bare’s 3-day clothing-optional kayaking/canoeing camping adventure along the picturesque Willamette River Water Trail. The fun was limitless, and we’re already talking about doing it again! If you relish the great outdoors and enjoy backpacking, you’ll fall in love with camping on the Willamette River Water Trail, it’s the excitement of backpacking minus the hiking. You can sit butt, relax, and soak in the beauty of nature, and let the current of the Willamette River do the work.
This year, we are thrilled to offer our third clothing-optional 3-day camping trip, spanning 25 miles from the town of Albany to the quaint community of Independence. We’ll glide past the scenic Santiam confluence and the historic Buena Vista ferry, surrounded by serene landscapes.
Trip Details:
Bryant Park, a beautiful green space, at 9:30 AM, where everyone can gather and get excited about the adventure ahead.
We plan to embark on the river at noon, launching our kayaks into the gentle waters of the Willamette.

Day One: 7 miles
We’ll start our adventure at Bryant Park (River Mile 120).
Our first day’s paddle will take us to DSL Island (River Mile 113), where we’ve discovered an excellent spot for camping on the island’s north end. Picture yourself nestled among the trees, under a canopy of stars, in perfect serenity.
Day Two: 9 miles
Departing from DSL Island (River Mile 113), we’ll paddle downstream, breathing in the fresh air and enjoying the tranquil scenery.
At Luckiamute State Natural Area, we will take a break for lunch. The Natural Area is an excellent location for skinny dipping in the clear waters and a delightful way to cool off!
We’ll continue our journey to the Buena Vista site, concluding our day at American Bottom (River Mile 104). This Oregon State Park is a gem, boasting well-maintained picnic tables, a seasonal toilet, and grassy areas for camping that will invite relaxation and comradery.
Day Three: 8.5 miles
Our final leg will take us to Independence Riverview Park (River Mile 95.5), a fitting end to our remarkable journey.
Once we arrive in Independence, we’ll walk to City Hall to collect our cars, then return to Riverview Park, we can drive right to the water’s edge to load our boats and camping gear, wrapping up our adventure with fond memories and stories to share, and a final look at the majestic river.
