To get you started on your journey of discovery, here are a few pros and cons of living as a retired nudist:
Financial Pro #1: Savings in clothes, which also saves on affiliated laundry costs, which translates to lower utility bills. And there’s an environmental benefit too. Typical (versus energy efficient) top-load electric clothes washers and dryers generate 5 pounds of CO2 per washer/dryer cycle. Given it’s used an average of 4 times a week, that’s 20 pounds a week, 80 a month, and 960 pounds of CO2 a year. The typical nudist family will use the washer and dryer about half that. Within the American Association for Nude Recreation membership roles, that is a collective savings of 24,000,000 pounds of CO2.
Another Pro: Think about housekeeping or exercising in the nude. By doing so you sweat less, don’t dirty clothes, and can also keep the air-conditioning bill down and shrink your clothes washing loads too. In the sunbelt (or elsewhere in the summer), by turning up your central air conditioning thermostat one degree, fuel consumption can be cut by as much as 10%.
Pro #3: In nudist communities, naked gardening is the norm. Besides body acceptance and personal freedom, nude gardening is comfortable, saves on laundry, and makes for a quick personal clean up – just hose down. Again, saving on utility expenditures.
Pro# 4: Everyone is neighborly; whether before retirement they were white collar or blue collar – now they wear no collar and class distinctions evaporate. Here if neighbors have a skill that can assist you, they’ll pitch in with a handyman and other support, saving you on expenses charged by tradesmen.
Pro #5: For transient retirees who RV to Florida nudist communities/RV parks and campgrounds, lot rent for campers at Cypress Cove is approximately $600/month – compared to a typical over 55 retirement venue which charges substantially more.
