If you thought the naturist camping trend peaked during lockdown, think again. According to Pitchup.com’s 2025 Outdoor Travel Trend Report, stripping down in the great outdoors is not only still a thing—it’s thriving. The camping booking site saw a 742% spike in searches for naturist campgrounds this year alone. Pitchup’s data shows that a growing number of travelers are seeking “non-sexualized nudity in nature” as a path to body positivity, shameless self-acceptance, and, yes, better tan lines.
If you’re into that sort of thing or are curious to explore it (and yourself) in all its glory, there are plenty of opportunities to opt into the “barefoot and bare-all” trend in the West. Colorado’s Wild Horse Mountain View Campsite gets a shoutout in the report for its sprawling views and naturist-friendly atmosphere, but the West is brimming with other spots where you can drop trou and tune in to your primal self. Among them are the clothing-optional Lupin Lodge near Los Gatos, California, a long-standing social nudist resort tucked into the Santa Cruz Mountains. Think yoga, hiking, and hot tubs—no clothing required. Also in the region is the historic Esalen Institute, whose soothing hot springs are famously clothing-optional.
Orvis Hot Springs in Ridgeway, Colorado, offers clothing-optional soaking in geothermal pools surrounded by views of the San Juans—just BYO towel. In the Southwest of Colorado, Springs Resort & Spa in Pagosa Springs hosts clothing-optional nights under the stars where guests can soak in peace. They also offer certain areas of the resort as clothing-optional.
So, whether you’re in it for the vitamin D, the radical self-love, or the chance to pack significantly lighter, now is the time dip in.
